FAQ

Will this cost money?

Not during the beta — it’s free. At 1.0 launch, Active Metrics will be a subscription: $4.99/month or $29.99/year. Beta testers get a free year at launch as a thank-you. See the terms for details.

Does GPS and live tracking drain my battery fast?

Continuous GPS and heart-rate sensing are the most battery-intensive things a watch can do, so yes, an outdoor workout with the live map on will use more battery than everyday wear — that’s true of any GPS workout app, not something specific to Active Metrics. If you’re planning a long effort, a full charge beforehand and a portable charger for anything multi-hour is a reasonable precaution.

Ultra, Ultra 2/3, or Series — does it matter which watch I use?

Active Metrics runs on any watch that supports watchOS 26.2+. The Ultra line has meaningfully more battery headroom, which matters most for long efforts — ultramarathons, all-day hikes, that kind of thing. For typical training runs and rides, a Series watch works fine.

What’s the minimum OS version?

watchOS 26.2 and iOS 26.2, or later, on both devices.

Why is route generation limited to Oregon and Washington?

The route-generation backend currently only has routing data loaded for that region. Everything else in the app — GPS recording, GPX import, turn-by-turn navigation on an imported route, offline maps — works anywhere. Wider coverage is on the roadmap post-beta.

Does my data leave my device?

Mostly no. Health and workout data lives on-device and syncs through your own iCloud account — we can’t read it. The only things that reach a server we operate are route-generation requests, map tile requests, and (only if you turn it on) live location sharing. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Can I export to Strava?

Not yet — it’s on the roadmap, not available during the beta.

How do I report a bug?

See the Beta Testing Guide — the short version is TestFlight’s built-in feedback (shake your phone) or email activemetrics@spearssoftware.com.
