Beta Testing Guide
Thanks for helping test Active Metrics. Here’s what’s useful to know as a beta tester.
What to test
There’s no fixed script — the most useful testing is just using the app the way you actually train. That said, a few areas benefit from extra attention:
- Data screens — try a few different grid layouts and focus pages, not just the default.
- Alerts — set a target zone (pace, heart rate, power, or cadence) and see whether the in/out-of-zone banner fires when it should.
- Routes — import a GPX file, try the turn-by-turn navigation, and test the off-route warning by drifting off the course on purpose.
- Live map & offline maps — download a region before a run somewhere with spotty signal, then check it’s actually usable offline.
- Beacon (live sharing) — turn it on for a run, check what a recipient actually sees, and confirm it stops updating when it should.
- Sensors — if you have a Stryd, power meter, or cadence sensor, pairing and data quality are worth double-checking.
- Structured workouts — build an interval workout on your phone and run it on your watch.
- Readiness & training load — these need a few workouts and a night or two of sleep data before they say anything useful, so give it some time before judging.
How to file a good bug report
The fastest way is TestFlight’s built-in feedback — shake your phone (or use the screenshot share sheet) while in the app, and TestFlight attaches device info and the build number automatically. That context makes bugs much faster to track down.
If you’re emailing instead (activemetrics@spearssoftware.com), include:
- What you were doing right before it happened
- What you expected vs. what actually happened
- Your watch model and whether it’s reproducible
Build expiry
TestFlight builds expire roughly 90 days after we upload them. If Active Metrics suddenly won’t launch and shows an expired-build message, check TestFlight for a new build — we’ll also email new builds out as they ship during the beta.
Free year at launch
As a thank-you, beta testers get a free year of Active Metrics when it launches at 1.0. We’ll email an offer code to the address you used to request beta access as launch gets close.
