Active Metrics’ maps and routing are built on open data and open-source software. We’re grateful to these projects, and this page fulfills the attribution terms they require.

Map data — OpenStreetMap

Map tiles and routing data are derived from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). OpenStreetMap data is open and editable by anyone — learn more at openstreetmap.org.

Protomaps

Vector map tiles are built from planet-wide extracts published by Protomaps, an open-source project for self-hostable map tiles built on OpenStreetMap data.

Elevation data

Elevation along generated and imported routes comes from the Terrain Tiles open dataset on AWS, which is built from public sources including NASA’s SRTM, USGS GMTED2010, and the USGS National Elevation Dataset.

MapLibre GL

The live map that beacon recipients open in a browser is rendered with MapLibre GL, an open-source map rendering library licensed under the BSD 3-Clause License. The app itself renders maps with its own engine and links no third-party libraries at all.

Apple WeatherKit
